Special Ops is a game mode that was first introduced in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and also returns in the game's sequel, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2Edit

Special Ops only consists of the player completing missions based off of campaign levels. Special Ops can be played split screen and online, and can only hold up to two players. Players may choose difficulties, which will make the enemies like they are in actual campaign. These difficulties are Regular, Hardened, and Veteran; the harder the difficulty is, the more stars the players will earn for completing the level.

There are 17 Special Ops level, with five in each group except the last, which only contains three. Each group requires a certain number of stars to be unlocked and are increasingly difficult These groups are named in alphabetical order according to the NATO phoenetic alphabet.







Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3Edit

Survival Mode returns in the sequel to Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. In addition to missions, there is a new game mode featured, known as Survival Mode.

Survival Mode is the new addition to Special Ops, where the players are required to fend off increasingly difficult waves of enemies. This can be played solo, split-screen, and online and limits two players per game.
